At Great Dunham, we love reading. We aim for all our children to become fluent, confident readers who are passionate about reading. Children read and are read to every day so that they have the opportunity to open the doors to so many different worlds! More importantly, reading will give your child the tools to become independent life-long learners.
We can achieve this together through:
- Read Write Inc, a program to help to your child read at school
- Encouraging children to develop a love of books by reading to them daily, at home and at school
- Giving children access to a wide range of books at school and at home
Every week we have time where children work together with their ‘reading buddy’. Here are some of the children’s comments about reading buddies:
- It’s a great idea because we can read even more
- I like reading buddies, it’s a really calm time
- I find it great. I enjoy learning from books and I feel that my reading is getting better
- I think it’s good because I enjoy reading with the younger children
- I really like reading buddies as it’s a good opportunity to read. I enjoy hearing about the other children’s books
- I like it because I like reading to the other children
Children who read regularly or are read to regularly have the opportunity to open the doors to so many different worlds! More importantly, reading will give your child the tools to become independent life-long learners.
